Network setup

Hi Bart, first off: great job! Chapeaux!

Few small questions:

- I'ld like to completely (!!) disable the atheros interface; so in /etc/config/wireless I've changed the 'disable' to '1'. However the interface still shows up in an 'ifconfig -a'. What would be the best place to disable the interface or remove both ath_ modules?

- the wired interface, changing /etc/config/network option 'proto' from 'static' to 'dhcp' in the 'lan' section would suffice to obtain leases instead of using a static address?

- I've got a (stratum 0 / 2 combo) ntp source running in the network. Would this interfere with your webservices? Or will my measurements add the localtime when transmitting to your rrd databases?

Sincerely,

Eric.

Hi Eric,

0/ Thanks! We welcome any feedback wrt installation and operation of the FLM. So if you find any of the instructions unclear or the documentation lacking in any way; please report on it.

1/ When switching over to ethernet mode via the push button, the atheros interface will be disabled by default. You might still see an entry in the ifconfig output, that'll probably be due to the /etc/config/network settings. Removing the ath related ones will cause problems when trying to switch back to wifi mode. So thread carefully!

2/ Please see section 2.1.2 and note #1 of the FLM manual [1]. In short, the FLM can be put into ethernet mode as a DHCP client (with disabling of the wifi itf) by pushing the toggle button for between 2 and 5 seconds. The FLM should be fully booted when doing this, so check that the heartbeat LED is blinking properly.

3/ The FLM can draw its local unix time from any NTP server. So configuring the /ect/config/ntpclient entries to point to your local NTP server should work. The FLM will always work with unix timestamps, so no TZ corrections are made for the timestamps. Each user's specific TZ is detected through the browser.
