[solved] switch between wired and wireless

is there an easy option to switch between wired and wireless connection to the flukso B?

rather than just being able to plug it in via ethernet to my router i have to plug it directly into my pc.
then set it up for wireless and unplug it hope it connects and works. and then setup for ethernet via the link below
surely there an easy way to be able to use it via ethernet or wifi?

this is all i can really find and its 5 years old

The "plug into PC" is just the initial setup; after that the "reporting mode" applies which can be toggled with the toggle button - in reporting mode the FLM takes its IP address from the router/DHCP server.
See manual, page 2, chapter 1.2.

it could definitely be easier to setup

first off i unplugged my pc from the router and connected the flukso to the ethernet cable, typed 192.168.255.1 into the web broswer - it didnt work

i powered the Flukso off and back on - still didnt work

i refreshed my LAN Adapter (noticing it still had my ip from the router). - still didnt work!

i had to manually set my computer ip to 192.168.255.2 so i could connect to the flukso.

it is now working but did take me over half an hour to get it setup

next question....
can i enter the flukso setup menu again without having to connect it directly to the pc again?

i know the ip addresses of the ethernet and wifi adapters of the flukso yet when i enter the ip into the web browser it says it cant connect.

do i need to connect to the flukso directly to the pc to change sensors etc?

cant see anything in the manual

Second question: you have to assign an IP-address to the PC itself in the same range as the Flukso (192.168.255.xxx).

First question: everything is in here: https://www.flukso.net/content/setup

Luckily, we have posts from forum members but sometimes information is difficult to find.

Search with http://site: flukso.net search term

B-Man's picture

the first question doesnt get answered in that link

it connects to the internet in wifi mode. not the issue. sounds like i have to connect it to a pc every time i want to connect to the flukso setup menu to change sensors or edit settings.
seems strange i cant do it now it has a DHCP IP address on my local network

When in ethernet reporting mode of course you can access the configuration page; then by the DHCP provided IP address and not the initial 192.168.255.1 - for accessing configuration in Wifi reporting mode you have to open the firewall --> https://www.flukso.net/content/access-flm-wireless-interface

Hmm, I was unclear. There is a lot of information about toggling the wifi in that link.

do i need to connect to the flukso directly to the pc to change sensors etc?

I think so, yes, but you have to do that only once or twice. See also the 'Install' tab, step 1.

And please take some time searching and getting inspired from the forum for yourself: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site%3Aflukso.net+network - with "network" being "your search term". Following the straight forward installation description has helped a lot of other users, including myself; partly it helps to just not interpret too much...

ok thanks GEBHARDM
followed that and it works via wifi now thanks.
assuming if i toggle it to ethernet it will work aswell (with ethernet IP of course)

one issue i just found

i upgraded the firmware to 247 before and left it for a fair while. When i power cycled the flukso it reverted back to the 245 instead of the 247** shown in the dashboard

Thanks for all your help

B-Man's picture

i get this error when trying to access the flukso while updating to 247

/usr/lib/lua/luci/sauth.lua:80: Security Exception: Session ID is invalid! stack traceback: [C]: in function 'assert' /usr/lib/lua/luci/sauth.lua:80: in function 'read' /usr/lib/lua/luci/controller/rpc.lua:28: in function 'authen' /usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:370: in function 'dispatch' /usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:195: in function

and then after a while longer it loads the flukso GUI but just shows 245 again..
and the dashboard goes from 247** to 245

Clear your browser cache for some javascript files have to be refreshed :-)

B-Man's picture

cleared my cache
tried a different computer all still says 245
tried toggling it to Ethernet and trying again and still didnt update

Be aware that by pressing the button in the settings you trigger an update to happen with the next heartbeat (247** indicates that it is scheduled, not installed!!!)- so, leave your FLM alone for some time...
See https://www.flukso.net/content/what-latest-firmware-and-how-upgrade and https://www.flukso.net/blog - especially the take notice of

"f you have a Fluksometer serial in the FL02xxxxxx or FL03xxxxxx range, you can now upgrade your FLM via a simple click on the settings (cogwheels in the top right corner) > devices page. The actual upgrade will take place on the next hourly FLM heartbeat. Make sure to keep your FLM humming during a scheduled upgrade."

B-Man's picture

i did work out that 257** meant scheduled and also worked out it done a heart beat every hour.

so i scheduled it and waited overnight (without doing anything but leave it running) and it still hadnt updated

B-Man's picture

tried again and still wont update. i have a FL03xxxxxx
is there another way to get it to update or find a log file of why its not working?

Can you leave your FLM connected to the internet and running as-is? Then I'll have a remote peek to see what might be going wrong.

B-Man's picture

Sure can. It's all yours.

icarus75's picture

Your FLM is now running r247. The upgrade script was a bit too fast in shutting down the dnsmasq daemon, which caused the firmware download to fail. I've updated the script so that dnsmasq keeps running during sysupgrade.

Thanks for reporting the issue!

All's well that ends well...
