I am unable to access the server - using MAC OS 10.7.5
I receive an error message that the server is not responding
have tried the Flukso toggle button (reset)
any further advice appreciated
thanks
Do you a Lan light on the Flukso? (2nd one)
Also it can take about 30minutes from my experience sometimes :(
I have had a lot of issues on Windows.
Sometimes it works thru my router, other times I have to plug in directly.
I have run a cat5 from Flukso to my computer room in a wall socket for this purpose.

BUT again today it just cant see the Fluko. Window diagnostics say rejected. Bugger.

Did you connect a laptop or computer directly to the Flukso via an ethernet cable? (While you are doing this, disconnect your computer from any other networks, such as wifi or wired connections.) The Flukso should automatically assign your machine a network address in the 168.192.255.x range.
You can verify this by going to System Preferences -> Network and checking the IP address that is assigned to your machine's network adapter while the Flukso is connected via ethernet.
Michi.

I did. I have a Cat5 running to my pc in a wall socket where I either plug in main PC or the laptop (that I had to purchase just to set the Flukso up)
Ive done this too many time now. Just seems to have a mind of its own?
Windows detects the address but says the device (Flukso) is not responding.
Im guessing mine will work again in 24hours .. .. :(
Not sure about Horsefieldia ..

@bazzle You can put the FLM in two modes via the toggle button: wifi or ethernet. See chapter two of the Fluksometer Manual. You can toggle between these two modes by pushing the toggle button between 2 and 5 secs. Your FLM has to be up and running (blinking heartbeat LED) before you do this. If not, the button push will not be detected.
When in wifi mode (blinking wifi LED), you have to connect your laptop via ethernet directly.
When in ethernet mode (wifi LED constantly on), you have to connect the FLM to a router so that it's able to obtain an IP address from this router. You can then access the local web interface by hooking up your laptop to your LAN. You have to find out the IP address of the FLM. It will not be 192.168.255.1 like it was in wifi mode.
Hope this clears out some of the confusion.

This just getting more confusing.
I am in WiFi mode, 1st light flashing approx 3 seconds (with a 1 second flash every now and then).
Laptop PC plugged into LAN port on FLM.
192.168.255.1
Message:
Internet Explorer cannot display the web page.
"hit" Diagnose connection problems.
Response:
Detected device not responding.
I am well and truly lost now. Minute tab hasnt worked for a week.
I dont want to have to reset and reload everything "again"
bazzle |
This is frustrating......................
Minute tab has now started working again ??
Lasts for about 2 to 20 seconds.
BUT I still cant get into FLM with laptop.

On the laptop, is your ethernet adapter configured to get a DHCP-assigned address?
You can figure out whether that's the case by going System Preferences -> Network. Select the ethernet adapter in the pane on the left and check that the "Configure IPv4" setting is "DHCP". With the network cable plugged in, you should see an address like 192.168.255.x, where "x" is something other than 0, 1, or 255.
If that is working, you have an IP address assigned by the Flukso and should be able to talk to it. To do the most basic connectivity test possible, run the Terminal application and type "ping 192.168.255.1" (without the quotes). If you get a response, you know that the laptop has a working ethernet connection to the Flukso, and that the Flukso's ethernet port is alive and responding.
If this isn't working, nothing else will. You can try to reset the Flukso, but I suspect that the problem is more likely with your laptop config. After all, if the Flukso is uploading data correctly, you know that it's working and that it's successfully connecting to your Wifi network, otherwise there would be no data at all.

I cant find that under win 7?
What I dont understand is that is works every now and again on 2 x laptops than just wont respond.
michi |
Sorry, I was under the impression that you were using OS X but, not checking again, I realise that was the OP. You can run a terminal in Windows by selecting "Run..." from the Start menu and then typing "cmd" into the text box. That starts a DOS shell. The shell has a ping utility, so just typing "ping 192.168.255.1" will test whether the Flukso is visible over your network. This will tell you if you can talk to the Flukso when the laptop is plugged in via ethernet.
It's weird that it works sometimes, but not other times. At the times the minute tab isn't working, the hour tab is still updating correctly? And you are doing this when you are connected to the same wifi network the Flukso is on, right? (It won't work if the laptop and the Flukso are on different networks.)

Hi Michi
can confirm DHCP but even with cable plugged into router - the ethernet icon is 'not connected'
Running a diagnostics - I get a message to contact my ISP and that the ethernet can't be connected
In any case I think the FLM has found its way to the server despite my efforts to follow the installation instructions
The LEDs: heartbeat (flashing), Globe on, LAN on
On the Flukso website it is registering the heartbeats every 30min or so
My issue now seems to be that there is no data being uploaded (or clamp/sensor/wiring issue?)
I have the FLM ethernet cable linked to my router. The sensor wiring was done by an electrician and he has run an ethernet cable from the clamps to my FLM. The cable has 4 cloured wires (red, green, orange, blue) with corresponding white wires carrying a coloured stripe. He has wired ports 4 & 5 on the FLM. (pulse measurement)
4+ blue
4 - white(blue stripe)
5+ orange
5- white (orange stripe)
I can't get to the clamps to see how the ethernet cable links to them as they are behind the power board in the fuse box which is the property of the power corporation.
Where do I find the terminal application you mention? Is this on the flukso website or on the flukso server that I am unable to find?
michi |
The terminal app is part of OS X. Just use Spotlight and type "terminal" into the text box.
Michi.
michi |
BTW, have you gone to the tools section of the Flukso website (clicked on the gear icon) at the top right and added your Flukso there? Without this, the Flukso web server won't know that you want it to track your device.
Michi.
bazzle |
With mine I get Pinging with 32 bits data - Request timed out, Request timed out.
Minute working on and off, hour ok.
Bazzle
michi |
Note that the ping test will work only if you are connected to the Flukso directly via ethernet. If you want to ping the Flukso via Wifi, it will have a different address, and you need to ping that instead. You can probably find out by looking at your router configuration which IP address was given to the Flukso.
Could it be that you have poor connectivity to the Flukso from your laptop via Wifi?
Michi.
bazzle |
Plugged straight in. 2 laptops tried.
Last week it allowed me to change a sensor setting using 192.168.255.1
Ive tried direct and thru the network.
Direct on 1st try on top left of screen flashes up
"Flukso Configuration Interface" for a brief instance then says cant connect.
If Im plugged into FLM I cant go to Flukso.net unless I unplug cable.
Ive had this issue ever sinse I purchased the unit and spoke about it more then once.
Wondering if my FLM is flaky?
Bazzle

With the laptop connected to the Flukso via ethernet, can you ping 192.168.255.1?
If you can, the next step is to type http://192.168.255.1 into your browser. If the ping succeeds, you know that the ethernet port is working. If you can browse the config interface, you know the Flukso's web server is working.
If the globe LED on the Flukso is on, you know that the Flukso is connected to your wifi network. If your wifi network is working otherwise, the Flukso will upload data to flukso.net. If the hour tab in your dash shows something, you know that the Flukso is correctly uploading data to the Flukso server, otherwise you wouldn't see it there. If you can see it, you know that your wifi network and internet connection are working correctly.
That leaves the minute tab. When you click the minute tab, the browser connects directly to your Flukso over the wifi network.
To test whether the Flukso listens to incoming requests from your wifi network, you need to find out what it's IP address on your local network is. The config page of your router should be able to tell you all the clients that are currently connected to your wifi network. One of those will be the Flukso. (The Flukso gets its IP address from your router.)
An easy way to figure out which device is the Flukso is to turn off all computers on your local network, except for the Flukso, the router, and the laptop. In this case, your router should show two connected clients and their IP addresses, one for the Flukso and one for your laptop.
You can find out what the laptop's IP address is following the instructions here:
The other IP address is the Flukso. Use the Start menu -> Run... and type "cmd".
That will open a DOS terminal session. Now type
ping w.x.y.z
You need to substitute the Flukso's IP address for w.x.y.z.
If the ping succeeds, you know the Flukso can be reached via Wifi. If this works, type
telnet w.x.y.z 8080
and hit return. If you get an error about a failed connection, you know that there is a problem with the service the Flukso runs on port 8080 (which is where the results for the minute tab come from). Otherwise, you will get a message along the lines of "Connected to w.x.y.z". If you get that, you know the Flukso is correctly connected to your wifi network, has a valid IP address, and is responding to requests on its port 8080.
If the minute tab is still not working, it's most likely a browser-related problem.
Michi.

I have spent hours just getting it running again, mine does not reset like the instruction say (did report in the past, pressing the toggle button is sporadic plus reset is a hit and miss).
Had it up off and on. Then I just could not bring up the flm page, etc etc.....no matter how I tried.
Deep breath.......rubs eyes....finally got it...hooray.
I do appreciate the time you took to help...I needed to be reminded how to ping and check path.
I can now ping to the flukso wirelessly . Found and checked addy to router (was in system page of flm also, under WAN, 192.168.0.20..LAN shows as 192.168.255.1).
Actually can see flm if plugged into flm on both these addy's now.
Data wirelessly (to router) uploading to Flukso site
Nearly an hour later up pops the minute tab??
Still times out but at least I can see it for long enough to check my instantaneous solar output and house consumption.
Thank you
Baz

1/ Do not connect your laptop to the FLM when you want to see the minute tab. Disconnect the cable and force your laptop to use the wireless.
2/ The FLM might have a flaky wifi connection to your router. You can check this by pinging the FLM continuously and look for packet loss.
