Flukso would need to ...

The place to talk at length about possible (and impossible) future features of Flukso.

Enhancement ideas for Flukso

Here are some random thoughts from somebody who is considering buying a Flukso to finish off a home project:

1. Allow Flukso's digital inputs to be set to other types (and calibrations) of sensors, in particular a water flow meter like this: http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=ZD1200 (should be easy to do, since it is also a hall effector sensor like the current sensor). These could easily be mapped on the same graph as power usage to get a 'whole utility' view.

Add support for "wired ethernet only" networks

In our cellar (where the "fusebox lives") there is no wifi. I was a bit sad to find out that the web-gui (luci) is very "basic". Now I'm trying to set the fluksometer up with wired-ethernet-only" on the cli. If I do find out how to do this I will report back.

ps: maybe the little swich on the side could be used to switch between wifi for internet accces-wired-ethernet for configuration and wired-ethernet-for-everything?

real time power meter

Hello,

My family is out of town so I have (finally) had a chance to try and track down some nasty passive power loads. With my family around I get too many screams of pain when I switch breakers off during the day!

I was spurred into action today as I noticed (via Flusko) that my house was using 550W (13.2 kWh/day) with no one home. About 350W of that is the average load of our fridge + deep freezer. About 140W are some passive loads that I have yet to track down, and about 60W my laptop and basic "nerd" IT that is running most of the time.

Real Power and Apparent Power

I have a cheap, non-logging meter which measure the current only, and the voltage is set as a configuration item. I expect Flukso to do the same.
The Flukso will therefore measure apparent power (VA), rather than real power (W). Measuring the standby power of my home appliances with a "Powermate Lite" has shown that many have a poor power factor. It looks like the base load of my house is about 180W but 250VA. When I turn on the fluoro lights, or the fridge runs, it doesn't get any better.

Graphs

I'm a new user for about one and a half day so I haven't found much time to play with the system other than clicking around in the Dash. This revealed some annoyances:

- no history: I can see minutes resolution for the last hour but not the one before. Some for days etc. It would be very useful to compare with my usage of previous days (one a fine scale!). Come to think of it:

-feature request: Overlay daily usage graphs self with self-1day. In a similar fashion I can compare Fluksonians.
