I looked into several electronic power meters but, none of them i can use, because they don't detect which direction the current is flowing. I would like to see a device which gives my totalpower consumption and if i produce power with the solar panels i would also like to see that. It would need al least 2 sensors. Is Flukso able to support that?
Some days i produce more than i use myself, and other days i use more than i produce,...

since i`m new here, let me first introduce myself a little bit:

i´m a computing/linux enthusiast from cologne/germany with some affinity to electrical engineering, energy and environmental protection, too - so it looks that flukso is just the project i was always waiting for :) . i have just come across this site via wikipedia article about home energy monitors.

i have spent some time with with currentcost envi , with good results. i like the envi very much. see http://umweltsuen.de/envi-demo-static/ for my home-power graphs.

Figured it would be nice if it was possible to add a webcam to the box (with an illumination led). That cam then could look at e.g. the gas meter and take pictures of it at regular intervals (led on, take pic,led off). The pictures then could be postprocessed using ocr technology to read the settings. Obviously this would have to be done on an external system as flukso is probably not powerful enough to do so.
